For vets needing help to live independently at home. I've had suggestions about making the brochure more appropriate for a national distribution and hope you'll be kind to send this update to your correspondence. I've given your readers a link to a basic YouTube introduction to the program, and all it takes is getting in touch with your local VAMC social worker or VA primary care provider.
Finally, here's a short list of situations where veterans are candidates for VDC:
Veterans are determined program eligible when one or more of the following conditions is met:Three or more activities of daily living (ADL) dependenciesSignificant cognitive impairmentReceiving hospice servicesTwo ADL dependencies and two or more of the following:
a. Three or more instrumental activities of daily living (IADL) dependencies
b. Recently discharged from a nursing facility
c. 75 years old or greater
d. Three hospitalizations or 12 outpatient clinics or emergency evaluations
e. Clinically depressed
f. Lives aloneMight not meet any specific criteria but clinically determined by the local VAMC to need services

Department of Defense Expanding Access to Military Commissaries, Exchanges and Recreation Facilities
June 17, 2019 – A5609 legislation that increases gross income tax deduction available to veterans from $3,000 to $6,000 was introduced and reported favorably by the Assembly Budget Committee. Identical Bill 3960 was introduced in the Senate and referred to Senate Budget and Appropriations Committee. It was reported favorably, 2nd reading. I anticipate these bills being voted on the 20th.

Free Workshop, refreshments providedThis FREE workshop is for couples who want to strengthen their relationship and communication skills, decrease conflict, and connect in a more effective and powerful way. The workshop will teach skills the couples can take home once they leave the workshop. The workshop is based on the Emotionally Focused Therapy for couples – a Gold Standard of couples therapy. The workshop emphasizes privacy and confidentiality and includes presentations, guided couple exercises, video clips of couple interactions, and group discussion. Participants do not need to speak in the group if they do not wish to. Assistant counselors are available for support.
